But the idea of “a cup of coffee” was unfamiliar to them. They did not drink, but ate coffee at those times. They fried coffee beans in boiling fat and served them as an appetizer.

McDonald’s coffee better than Starbucks?

MSNBC - Starbucks may be the world’s largest coffee shop chain in the world, but what they serve isn’t as good as what McDonald’s brews, Consumer Reports says.

In the March issue, the magazine called the fast food giant’s Premium Roast “cheapest and best.” The coffee also beat out new offerings from Burger King and Dunkin’ Donuts.

Herbal teas: health in a tea cup

indiaenews.com: When your throat feels sore or indigestion threatens, then it is time for a medicinal tea.

‘Herbal tea can ease symptoms if there is an indication that something is wrong or at the first sign a illness is getting worse,’ says Ursula Sellerberg, spokeswoman for an organisation here that represents the interests of Germany’s pharmacists.

The body and soul is helped to regenerate itself by the tea’s active ingredients and stimulated by the hot water.

Decaf coffee cuts diabetes risk

UK (BBC News)

A large US study of 28,000 women found that more than six cups of decaf coffee a day was linked with a 33% lower risk of diabetes compared with no coffee.

There was a much smaller reduced risk in women who drank caffeinated coffee.

The 11-year-long study in Archives of Internal Medicine suggests that in contrast to other research, caffeine intake does not reduce diabetes risk.

Could Irish coffee be the perfect drink?

CHICAGO (Reuters)
Could Irish coffee be the perfect drink?

Researchers reported on Monday that drinking coffee cuts the risk of cirrhosis of the liver from alcohol -- by 22 percent per cup each day -- but they stopped short of saying doctors should prescribe coffee for that reason.

The report from the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in Oakland, California, was based on a look at data from 125,580 people.

"These data support the hypothesis that there is an ingredient in coffee that protects against cirrhosis, especially alcoholic cirrhosis," concluded the report published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

China to train 10,000 coffee makers to slake nation's thirst.

(telegraph.co.uk) - For centuries, the Chinese have delighted in the simple rituals of making and serving tea. Now they are having to learn a new skill: the intricacies of producing a state-of-the-art cup of coffee. So many of China's middle classes have begun drinking cappuccino and caffe latte that the country's labour ministry has declared an official skills shortage. About 10,000 trained coffee makers and servers are needed in Beijing and Shanghai alone, according to a government survey.
